Many times, we have to fight thoughts.
Thoughts of inferiority.
Thoughts of fear.
Thoughts of anxiety.
Thoughts of doubts.
Thoughts of anger.
Thoughts of defeat.
Thoughts that try to rise above the truth of Jesus Christ. Thoughts that try to undermine our confidence in who we are in Christ and what we have been given through Christ in His work of Salvation. Thoughts of the enemy that try to create a stronghold of lies in our minds.
Do we have to just roll over and accept that these thoughts will come and control our minds? Do we have to stay stuck in the lies…stuck in the battle?
We are told in scripture that we can take these thoughts CAPTIVE! We can arrest these thoughts! To take them captive and to arrest them means we are given authority over these thoughts. That also means that these thoughts do no originate from our heart…they originate from a source that we, as a Christian, have the right to take captive and arrest. We have authority over the one who sends the thoughts.
Read this scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:5
NIV: We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Young’s Literal Translation: ...reasonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ,
The Voice: We are demolishing arguments and ideas, every high-and-mighty philosophy that pits itself against the knowledge of the one true God. We are taking prisoners of every thought, every emotion, and subduing them into obedience to the Anointed One.
To take these thoughts captive, we must replace them with the TRUTH. The TRUTH from the Word of God. The TRUTH from the revelation knowledge given to us by the Holy Spirit.
Read this scripture: Philippians 4:8
NIV: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
The Voice: Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy.
Fill your mind (and I would say, your mouth as well) with beauty and TRUTH!
